Ideally, efforts by faculty, staff, and administration to improve instruction and student learning would be guided by motivation theory and research. However, understanding this substantial body of knowledge can be time consuming and daunting. In this workshop, Dr. Kenn Barron from the Motivation Research Institute at James Madison University will cut through the complexity to provide a single, unifying formula that pinpoints the major sources of student motivation. You will learn how evidence-based practices that promote each source of motivation can be applied to your own teaching, courses, and programs to create conditions in which all students can thrive. Finally, you will learn about the importance of assessing student motivation to guide and evaluate your efforts.
