Background 
Dr. Gretchen Achenbach is a Research Scientist with NCWIT and in the Department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia. Dr. Achenbach works with NCWIT Extension Services for Undergraduate Programs, serves as a Social Science Liaison to NCWIT’s Academic Alliance, and is a member of NCWIT’s Resource Team. In these roles, she works directly with undergraduate computing departments and also creates research-based resources to raise awareness and implement change in women’s representation in computing. With her background in psychology, environmental education, and the study of animal behavior, she brings a history of communicating science to a variety of audiences to a position that advances one of her primary interests, opportunities for girls and women.
