Michael Schwern

Background

Michael G Schwern is a veteran Perl and Open Source Software developer who speaks at conferences on subjects such as software testing, geek socialization, and using toys to teach advanced computer science concepts. His testing and infrastructure software is used by thousands of companies, quietly saving millions by identifying bugs before they become problems.

In recent years Schwern has taken up the baton of gender and diversity, using privilege for good in Open Source communities by reframing the argument in terms of opposing values in an effort to create understanding. In 2012 he presented these ideas in the keynote speech, Perl: The Next Generation, at YAPC::NA, the North American Perl Conference.
