As part of CS4Philly Week 2018, a week-long celebration of National Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 3-9), NCWIT Counselors for Computing will present a special half-day professional development session for elementary and secondary school counselors in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This program complements a wide variety of sessions that are being offered throughout the week in different venues across the city, all designed to inspire learning, awareness, and advocacy among CSEd stakeholders, including civic, private, and public leaders in K-12 education, higher education, industry, community, and parents.

Preparing for Careers of the Future: School Counselors, Lead the Way! // Tuesday, December 4, 2018, 12:00 to 3:13 p.m. EST // Location: Temple University Howard Gittis Student Center
This half-day professional development session is led by facilitators trained in the Counselors for Computing (C4C), an initiative of the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT). C4C provides professional school counselors with information and resources they can use to support ALL students as they explore computer science education and careers. “CS for All” is a national movement with significant implications for counselor practice.
Counselors who participate in this session will acquire an understanding of what computer science is, how computer science education is a key for students to access the tech and innovation economy, and why everyone can benefit from increasing diversity in the field of computing. School counselors will leave equipped with information and connections to resources for increasing student opportunities to access college and career pathways in computer science.
