The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) 2018 Annual Conference brings together approximately 3,000 school counseling professionals for four days of inspirational keynote sessions, informative breakout sessions, in-depth looks at hot topics in the school counseling profession, and plenty of networking opportunities. This year’s conference is being held in Los Angeles, California, and the theme is Reach for the Stars!

Computer Science – Counseling Students Who Invent the Future // Monday, July 16, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. // Location: Room 409

Computer science is changing everyone's lives, yet few contribute to the technologies and services we all use. Learn about the national Computer Science for All initiative and how school counselors at the vanguard are supporting new courses and viable career pathways so more students get involved in the growing fields of computing. Walk away confident that you are supporting viable pathways, whether students' postsecondary plans are for two- or four-year college or military service. After attending this session, you should be able to: 1) Define computer science and identify who's right for it. 2) List tips for talking about computer science education and careers with students, parents, teachers and other influencers. 3) Access the Counselors for Computing toolkit.
