Season Two of Modern Figures Podcast Continues to Elevate the Voices of Black Women in Computing

MFP_ThumbThe Modern Figures Podcast recently launched new episodes that continue to highlight the often neglected stories of Black women in computing. The series, featuring co-hosts Dr. Kyla McMullen and Dr. Jeremy Waisome, is sponsored by NCWIT and led by the Institute for African-American Mentoring in Computer Science (iAAMCS). iAAMCS is a national resource for all African-American computer science students and faculty. To date, thirteen new episodes have aired since the beginning of Season Two, featuring a wide variety of guests who share their stories and perspectives on technical, societal, and personal topics. 

When asked about what’s new and different in Season Two, Dr. Kyla McMullen noted, “more Black Girl Magic, and then some!” Listeners can expect to hear important stories from black women as they navigate the computing landscape, including topics related to social robotics, survival strategies for black women and girls in tech, and digital finance and security.  

Additionally, this season remains geared towards a diverse array of K-12, postsecondary, and workforce audiences, featuring a broader group of voices and advocates for the advancement of black women in tech, including: 

The newest season of Modern Figures also includes extended “Ask Us” conversations around diversity and inclusion in computing.  

New episodes will debut every Monday through the end of May.
