NCWIT at SIGCSE

NCWIT at SIGCSE 2015

SIGCSE is one of the biggest events of the year for computer science educators, and NCWIT is excited that we’ll be there in full force again this year. Here’s a breakdown of where and when you can find NCWIT during this event.=

Broadening Participation in Computing Booth

You'll find us in the exhibit hall as part of the Broadening Participation in Computing booth where we invite you to learn about all NCWIT programs including EngageCSEdu, a web-based collection of materials for introductory undergraduate computer science courses from faculty across the nation. All materials are peer-reviewed for quality and their potential to engage and retain diverse student populations.

Academic Alliance Reception

The NCWIT Academic Alliance will host a reception sponsored by Microsoft Research on Friday, March 6 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. CST in Marriott's C/C1 section of the Basie Ballroom. NCWIT invites faculty members of higher education to attend. Both current members and those interested in becoming members are welcome.

EngageCSEdu

Alvaro Monge of California State University Long Beach, Beth Quinn of NCWIT, and Cameron L. Fadjo of Google will demo EngageCSEdu on Friday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. CST in the exhibit hall.

Special Announcement

NCWIT, ACM-W, and Google.org team up to present an exciting announcement about student computing groups. Join us on Thursday, March 5 at 6:45 p.m. CST in the Imperial Ballroom.

NSF Showcase

On Thursday March 5, join NCWIT from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall for NSF Showcase #2. NCWIT Senior Social Scientist, Wendy DuBow, and Cheryl Calhoun, of Santa Fe College, will present “Recruitment and Retention for Community Colleges.”

Posters

While you’re in the exhibit hall, make sure to check out two NCWIT-related posters. (1) "Culturally Responsive Computing: An In-depth Examination of Outcomes in COMPUGIRLS," and (2) "Creating Counselor Champions for Change in K-12 Computing Education."

Panels and Special Sessions

On Thursday, March 5 at 10:45 a.m. CST, NCWIT Senior Research Scientist Lecia Barker will participate on a panel entitled "Booming Enrollments - Good Times?" that will cover the "enrollment boom, as well as potential effective practice strategies to respond to the increasing demand for computing education."

On Friday, March 6 at 1:45 p.m. CST, Lecia will also be part of a special session called, "Towards Grand Challenges in Computing Education Across Disciplines."

On Saturday, March 7, Lecia will deliver a paper entitled, "What Influences CS Faculty to Adopt Teaching Practices?" at 10:45 a.m. CST.
