Mount Holyoke College

Mount Holyoke College

As the first of the Seven Sisters—the female equivalent of the once predominantly male Ivy League—Mount Holyoke established higher education for women as a serious endeavor. Their long, distinguished history of educating leaders arises from a powerful combination of academic excellence in a global learning environment, a tight-knit, diverse, and international community, a worldwide network of influential alumnae, and the conviction that women can and should make a difference in the world. Mount Holyoke has a long history of supporting the entry of women into many fields of science, i.e. for the better part of a century, the college sent more women off to PhDs in the physical sciences than perhaps any other academic institution. Integrating computing throughout the liberal arts curriculum has been at the heart of the Computer Science Department's work since 1971.

Muskingum University

Muskingum University

Since its founding in 1837, Muskingum has been a community of learners - people learning from and with other people. Muskingum's mission is to educate the "whole person" and it does so by meeting students where they are on the educational continuum, and by helping these students to progress to their maximum potential. Muskingum's excellence is measured most significantly by its alumni, who have served the world as CEO's of major corporations, major media figures, scientists, educators, civic and religious leaders, and as parents and friends. Muskingum University provides its students with a sound technical education that includes topics from a number of emerging areas, including web tool development, network and wireless communication, animated graphics, artificial life, and robotics. At the same time, the department faculty believes that a liberal arts institution should have a special mission that includes discussions of the effects of this technology within our society and around the world.
