Goal statement
Montana State University's Computer Science Department is systematically remodeling its student spaces. Three rooms have been remodeled to date. Two rooms provide students with a Japanese-themed, aesthetic, comfortable environment in which to work, collaborate and seek assistance from other students. The third room provides students with a startup-like environment in which to work on semester-long projects that are overseen by industry. The remodeled rooms receive heavy use and reinforce many important ideas such as the importance of interdisciplinary thinking, the importance of understanding our global world, the importance of collaboration and the importance of creating a beautiful future. We believe the rooms help us attract, retain and graduate increasing numbers of students and faculty. Female students, who never used the rooms before the remodels, are now some of the heaviest users.
