I would like to implement a realistic C4C initiative designed to increase the positive perception of high school counselors, high school girls & their parents/guardians that think computing and/or IT careers are a great choice.

Pellissippi State Community College
Business and Computer Technology

Involve peer faculty; school recruiters, advisors; enrollment professionals.

Have gathered & located C4C resources; identified individuals at the college I wish to contact. Successfully recruited peer faculty member to visit schools to lead "hour of code" and share NCWIT resources.Helped student AITP club host an open house that connected high school counselors, teachers, students and their parents with local IT professional women. Each participant was given a packet of NCWIT resources and information about the CS & IT programs at PSCC and University of Tennessee. In August, we have planned to lead an in-service session for local K-12 math teachers on how to use available resources to connect math with programming.Holding the open house during the academic term was very time consuming and interfered with the instructor's and students' focus on academic activities. We recommend that this type of thing ony be done during the summer or beginning of a semester. Math instructors were very eager to have PSCC faculty visit their schools. We think it would be better to have student volunteers lead the hour of code so that K-12 students can observe someone closer to their age engaged in CS or IT.RecruitingOutreachAdvising/CounselingRaising Awareness
