In 2004, the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded $3.25 million to help establish the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT.) The NSF/CISE award number 0413538 provides financial support for NCWIT's infrastructure and a research emphasis on undergraduate and graduate education and faculty careers.
In July 2008 NSF/CISE awarded NCWIT a supplemental grant of $5.8 million. This grant, number 0813956, will support the continuation of our alliances, the creation and evaluation of resources, and the creation of systems to accelerate organizational reform.

In Fall 2005 NCWIT was awarded a five-year, $2.4 million grant by the Division of Human Resource Development at the National Science Foundation Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR). This Extension Services grant, number 0533580, supports the identification, evaluation, implementation and dissemination of practices nationally to bring about systemic and sustained progress in women's participation, and will do so by allowing members of the NCWIT Academic Alliance institutions to participate in annual regional and national workshops, on-site consultations, and educational client services designed to increase gender diversity in their computing programs.
