Workshop Breakout I: "Innovative Alternative Pathway Programs"
The three featured programs of this panel and breakout: 1) Sean Kelley of Microsoft will lead a discussion on the experiences of returning military members entering the IT workforce and the associated policy issues; 2) Deborah Keyek-Franssen of the University of Colorado and CCGIT will discuss how to feed the CS/IT pipeline through relationships between community colleges and four-year institutions; and 3) Martina Whelshula of the Spokane Tribal College will discuss educational IT pathways for community and tribal college graduates. Please select one of these three options, below.
Workshop Breakout II: "Research on Alternate Pathways"
The three featured research topics of this panel and breakout: 1) Laura Castaneda of the Rand Corporation will discuss how IT might work for military families, and how military members and spouses can enter and advance in IT careers; 2) JD Hoye, president of the National Academy Foundation, will discuss her nationwide network of career-themed, college-prep academies and how this approach can bring underrepresented groups to IT careers; and 3) Audrey Bennett, RPI professor of graphic design, will discuss her NSF project on using contextual computing to attract women and underrepresented groups.
