CS Majors Shaping the Future of Textbooks

Are you a computer science major? Your opinions are in demand.

Pearson, one of the leading education publishers, is seeking participants to serve on its Pearson Student Advisory Board (PSAB). This is an incredible professional opportunity for undergrads to earn a $1,000 stipend, travel to Boston and other cities (all expenses paid), gain valuable business experience, receive complimentary textbooks, and develop a wide network of contacts.

From June 2008 – June 2009, the PSAB will bring together ten savvy, motivated, college students from around the country to dialogue, experience the inner workings of a global publishing business, collaborate and brainstorm with other talented students, and network with top executives.

For participation on the PSAB, Pearson seeks students who are smart, passionate about learning, want to make a difference through their work, and care about helping other students achieve their potential; and it particularly encourages computer science majors to apply. Students can participate in the program while they are going to school; the time commitment is between 0 - 5 hours per week.

PSAB projects vary from year to year, but here's an example of the Board's current focus. Three committees - PR, Editorial, and Marketing - each was assigned to a special project and has created a business plan. For example, the Editorial Committee is creating a national website to enable college students to submit photos and artwork to be used on the cover and inside of Pearson textbooks. The Board members also are playing a critical role in shaping new products and revisions of textbooks. To complete their special assignments, Board members have traveled to Boston, Denver, New York City, and San Francisco on weekends and on summer and winter breaks.
