Rensselaer offers more than 145 programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Students are encouraged to work in interdisciplinary that allow them to combine scholarly work from several departments or schools. The university provides rigorous, engaging, interactive learning environments and campus-wide opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and creativity. For almost two centuries, Rensselaer has maintained its reputation for providing an undergraduate education of undisputed intellectual rigor based on educational innovation in the laboratory, classroom, and studio. The Institute is especially well-known for its success in the transfer of technology from the laboratory to the marketplace so that new discoveries and inventions benefit human life, protect the environment, and strengthen economic development. One root, written into the school’s founding documents, is “...the application of science to the common purposes of life.” The second root, also built into the school’s origin, was the employment of unique educational strategies.
Rhodes mathematics and computer science majors are active and engaged in the life of the department...we′ve mentioned just a few ways that we regularly engage our majors. Our department has seven mathematicians and two computer scientists who are committed to effective classroom teaching, maintain active research programs, and foster partnerships in Memphis and beyond. Investigate our web pages to learn more about the department′s faculty, our course offerings, and the many opportunities we offer.
The department at Rice has a three-sided mission: to create knowledge, to disseminate knowledge, and to provide service to their communities - the local Rice community and the broader community beyond the campus. From anti lock brakes to airbags, secondary oil recovery to weather prediction, advanced imaging technology to digital enhancement in the cinema, computation is changing the world. Contrary to popular belief, the job market in computer science and information technology is robust and growing (a fact highlighted by the recent ACM task force on Outsourcing, chaired by their own Moshe Vardi).
The university’s focus on communication and business skills gives graduates an advantage in the job market. And each student enjoys the small class sizes and personal attention that make RMU a special place to learn.

The CS group for women called "gEECS" i.e. girls in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering meets three to four times a term and gives the women an opportunity to get to know each other and plan outreach activities with middle and high school girls. Along with DePauw University and Indiana University at Bloomington, they are organizing INWIC 2008 (Indiana Women in Computing). This is a conference for women in computer science programs in Indiana and is a great opportunity for their students to network with other young women in the field and share their ideas. Their faculty teaches two-day workshops for high school Computer Science teachers in Indiana, to help them prepare their students for the CS Advanced Placement exams.
