The Workforce Alliance Data Subcommittee is working to identify areas where data and statistics regarding women’s participation are lacking. Currently, one of the committee’s primary projects is the development of a report on the participation of technical women in IT companies and within IT departments at non-IT companies. This report will identify the number of women participating in crucial aspects of IT research, innovation, development, and leadership, and the types of positions they hold. Kinds of data being collected include participation rates of women in technical positions, participation rates of women in leadership positions in IT companies, IT patenting rates for women, and gendered salary patterns. The Practices Subcommittee is supporting several studies that seek to determine the current climate and barriers for women in IT companies, and identify promising practices to address them. The first, a study by Catalyst, surveyed IT employees and focused primarily on the existing culture in IT companies and women’s perceptions, experiences, and levels of satisfaction in these companies. Read the final report, “Women in Technology: Maximizing Talent, Minimizing Barriers”.
